Before getting started, make sure you've watched [su_lightbox src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGNGrTDfijU"]Captain Mike's introduction video[/su_lightbox].

1 Samuel 17
How did David feel when he walked into the Israelite camp and heard Goliath making fun of the God of Israel?

What was his response? What did he say to the Israelites and to King Saul? What would have been your response?

How did King Saul respond to David’s conviction (his firm belief about killing Goliath)?

What other foes had David conquered in the past to prepare him for the fight against Goliath? How was God preparing David to serve Him? Even if you do not see how, do you think God might be using the lessons and struggles you face today to prepare you to serve Him in the future? Can you name some of these troubles in your life?

What would you take into battle if you were fighting Goliath on your own?

Why did David feel comfortable bringing only 5 smooth stones and a slingshot to fight Goliath?

What does David’s response to Goliath’s taunting say about David’s heart for God?

Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd's pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.

1 Samuel 17:40

What areas of your life have you relied more on your own skill and knowledge rather than asking for God’s help first?

What could be the warning signs that would let you know that this choice may not be in God’s will (may not be obedient to God)?

Can you list a couple of times where you felt that you had been able to make the right choice even when it was hard? Or done the right thing even when it was harder than doing what was wrong?
