Tree Climbers

Day Three

God the Maker

Before getting started, make sure you've watched [su_lightbox src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8Ty87KWA48"]Captain Chris' introduction video[/su_lightbox].

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

Genesis 1:31 & Deuteronomy 4:35
What is the purpose of the masterpiece?

Can you name some good works you have done?

What do you think it means when the Bible says "which God prepared in advance for us to do?"

How do you resemble your dad?

How do you resemble your Heavenly Father?

Who has a better idea of what "good" means: you or God? Which do you prefer?

Activity

Enjoy time together. You will make a hobo stove for cooking burgers. This is a classic at Northern Frontier. Follow the instructions below alongside the video.

Making the Stove

Get your hands on a large #10 tin can. Simply punch or drill out some holes in the top rim of the can. Make sure they are close together so that you get good airflow. Repeat this at the bottom of the can, using snips to make the opening large enough for twigs to pass through.

Lighting the Stove

Put the stove on a flat stone or slab to avoid burning the ground and to keep it level. Place your dry tinder first (newspaper and a few twigs work nicely). Set a fire and allow it to grow before placing your #10 can upside down over the flame.

Get Cooking

Place your hamburger directly on top of the can. You may wish to wish a small and well-fitting fry pan. You can control the heat by adding more or less wood under the stove. Use the opening you created to add additional twigs to keep the flame going.
