Our road into camp is part of the adventure—but it’s not your average driveway. It’s a 3-mile, one-lane wilderness road through the Adirondacks, winding past steep hills, rock outcroppings, and beautiful forest views. The drive is scenic, but it demands attention and care.
Maintenance and Conditions
We maintain the road with a grader to keep it as safe and passable as possible. Over the years, we’ve made significant improvements—today it’s much safer than it used to be, and most vehicles can make the trip without trouble if driven carefully. Still, this is a rugged Adirondack road, and heavy rainfall can cause erosion, washouts, and loose stone. We continue to monitor and maintain it throughout the season.
Driving Tips
Your best bet for a smooth trip is to:
• Drive slowly—between 5–12 mph—in low gear.
• Keep your tires on top of the rocks and bumps rather than straddling them.
• Honk your horn at blind corners.
• Be prepared for loose stones, mud, and steep hills.
• Vehicles with good clearance and all-wheel or four-wheel drive are recommended, though many two-wheel drive vehicles make it in fine with careful driving.
Shared Trail Section
At about 1.7 miles in (just after the swamp), the state hiking trail to OK Slip Falls overlaps our road for about 30 yards. Please slow to 5 mph here and watch for hikers.
