Most of our weeks at Northern Frontier feature sunny skies and hot afternoons. Yet, one element can come and go: the refreshing touch of rain.
As we journey through life, we often enjoy the sunny days but must also embrace the storms that come our way. Just as the Bible reminds us in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Fortunately, a cold front will sometimes sweep through with a great array of clouds, bringing much-needed rain. You might think a severe thunderstorm during dinner would be enough to ruin an evening. Still, our staff and campers see it as an incredible opportunity to rejoice and witness God’s creation in all its forms.
What could be a dampener turns into a celebration. Joyous shouts echo the sentiment of Psalm 100:1, ‘Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.’
As the thunder subsides and the rain persists, one of our dedicated counselors almost always expresses a timeless question:
What happens when it rains at Northern Frontier?
We get wet!
Our first instinct may be to seek shelter during a downpour, but sometimes it takes a few brave souls to lead the way. They remind us of Joshua 1:9, ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.’ Their faith and courage inspire us to face the storm head-on, turning discomfort into adventure.
Stepping away from our usual routines allows us to flourish. Just as Jesus stepped out of the boat to walk on water, we can, too, step out in faith, embrace the unexpected, and turn discomfort into an unforgettable adventure.
These moments, etched in our memories, are a testament to Northern Frontier’s unyielding spirit. We witness God’s transformative power in these times of challenge and change, shaping us into stronger, more faithful individuals. Romans 5:3-4 reminds us, ‘We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.’
At Northern Frontier, we’re not just experiencing the thrill of adventure; we’re learning to trust God in every season, rain or shine. This is where the true joy lies—in knowing that no matter the weather, our God is always with us, turning every storm into a celebration of His unending love and grace.
